“Skill India” campaign was launched by the Hon’ Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi, with an aim to train over 40 crore people in different skills .It is expected that the hydrocarbon sector would generate one lakh technical jobs over next five years .To meet this requirement ,PSUs under Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gases are Developing Skill Development Institutes in various states.
MoP&NG has formed a Steering Committee consisting of Director (HR) s of Oil Public Sector Undertakings for setting up Skill Development Institutes in various parts of the country. Each major Oil & Gas PSU (IOCL, ONGC, BPCL, HPCL, OIL and GAIL) has to set up Skill Development Institute (SDI) in different states. SDI Kochi is operational at INKEL Park in Angamaly with effect from December 2016. The SDI Kochi is offering certification courses in four trades in Fitter Fabrication, Industrial Electrician (Oil & Gas), Industrial welder (Oil & gas) and Process Instrumentation, each of six months duration. The courses are aligned to National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), of the central government and approved by respective sector skill councils under National Skill Development
Corporation (NSDC).
This SDI have an intake capacity of 45 students in each trade totalling to 180 students per batch and 360 students per year and each course will span over six months. The eligibility criteria are ITI pass and age not exceeding 25 years.
The courses are designed to be residential with separate hostel facility for boys and girls.
